I like a store that notices me. Just to give an example, have you noticed that every clerk and manager in Walgreen’s makes eye contact and greets you with a hello? They also say thanks when you leave. One of my more cynical friends says they are just looking out for shoplifters and I fit the profile. I prefer to think that they like their jobs, they know where their paychecks come from, and they like seeing other people smile. I appreciate the gesture!
In these times, we all appreciate the store that goes the extra mile to serve us! But it boils down to that one person who smiles, serves you and keeps you coming back! Extended hours are a nice extra too, especially at Christmas!

In my opinion Customer Service is so important when deciding where to shop. Establishments with that “Texas Friendly Attitude” are a step above the rest. Did you know that the Nacogdoches Convention & Visitors Bureau can set your business up with Texas Friendly Training classes for your entire staff? I belive the Main Street Program is also going to start offering it as a benefit of being a downtown merchant after the 1st of the year.
Please send me all the information about Texas Friendly training classes. What a great opportunity. Thank you for this site. I look forward to seeing it grow. mdel
I think some kind of directory would be beneficial. If folks realized that most of what they find at the discount stores (and so much more) is available downtown in a comfortable, friendly, relaxed atmosphere, I think they would choose to shop downtown first.
Dan,
Thanks for your comments.
We do have two excellent directories up and running. The links are on this website, in the right hand column, under “websites of interest.”
“Find a Nac Business” will lead you to Chamber member business listings.
“Shop Downtown Nacogdoches” will link you to downtown merchants.
Happy Shopping!
I’ve just gotten back from the Texas Renaissance Festival with lots of new stuff and will be open extra days for Christmas shopping, too! 10-6 Monday-Saturday and 12-5 Sunday.
