2008 Holiday sales were up in Nacogdoches

Sales taxes collected in Nacogdoches, Texas, for December 2008 were up more than 6 percent, compared to December 2007.  This is a direct indication that buyers were able to “Shop Nac First.”

The Nacogdoches Daily Sentinel’s Andrew Goodridge reports:

The City of Nacogdoches received $607,982 in sales tax allocations, which is up 6.1 percent over this time last year. The county received $623,806 overall, which is an increase of just over 6.6 percent.

“Given the volatility of the overall national economy, city staff is extremely pleased to have posted a 6.1-percent gain in sales tax revenues this month as compared to the same reporting period last year. This particular report indicates sales during December 2008 were on the upswing here in Nacogdoches,” Deputy City Manager Victoria LaFollett-Keonig said. “So far this fiscal year, sales tax receipts are reflecting a 1.96 percent increase over budget projections — nearly $55,000.”

Though the figures continue to stay strong, LaFollett-Koenig said the city staff “will continue to diligently monitor national and state trends that could impact local sales tax revenues.”
